Visitors originating from or transiting through countries prevalent with yellow fever need to have a VALID vaccination certificate. Visitors arriving directly into Tanzania from places like Europe, the USA, Japan and other non-yellow fever areas are not required to produce a vaccination certificate. Visitors are advised to take anti-malaria tablets and make use of mosquito nets and insect repellents where provided. Comprehensive travel and medical insurance is recommended before travel.
All travelers to Tanzania must complete an online Public health surveillance within 24 hours before they travel via https://afyamsafiri.moh.go.tz for Tanzania Mainland and https://healthtravelznz.mohz.go.tz/traveller for Zanzibar within 24 hours before arrival to the United Republic of Tanzania. Travelers will be provided with a Unique Health Code (UHC) which must be presented upon arrival in Tanzania. Filling of Traveler’s Health Surveillance Form is a mandatory requirement before boarding to URT and there shall be a penalty to conveyances for noncompliance.
Travelers entering URT who are fully vaccinated, will be exempted from both RT PCR and Rapid Antigen Test requirements. Travelers will be required to present a valid vaccination certificate with QR code for verification upon arrival. Acceptable vaccines are those that have been approved by the URT and the World Health organization. Passengers not fully vaccinated, unvaccinated due to their country policy will be required to present a negative COVID 19 RT -PCR or NAATS Certificate with a QR code obtained within 72 hours before departure for verification upon arrival. Travelers will be subject to a Rapid Test upon arrival at their own cost of 10 USD (23,000 Tzs ) for mainland Tanzania, cost of 25 USD (58,000 Tzs) for Tanzania Zanzibar and 35 USD for an Exponential Deep Examination for travelers arriving from UAE via Zanzibar . If found positive they will be tested with RT-PCR for confirmation, allowed to self-isolate and results will be emailed to them. Not fully vaccinated/unvaccinated and have no negative COVID 19 RT- PCR certificate will be in case of air transport and International marine vessels will be tested for COVID19 using RT PCR test at their own cost of 100 USD for Tanzania Mainland. Results will be sent while self-isolated. In case of, international regional and inland vessels will be tested by Rapid Antigen Test at their own cost of 10 USD if positive will be further confirmed by RT- PCR at a cost of 50 USD for Tanzania Mainland. And in case of ground crossing, it will be tested by Rapid Antigen Test at their own cost of 10 USD and if found positive will be handled according to Bilateral and Joint Border agreements.
Please note that children aged 5 years and below, Travelers in transit, Aircraft crew are exempted from both RT PCR and Rapid Antigen Tests requirements in the URT.
Travelers to URT who are eligible for Rapid Antigen Test as are advised to pay online to avoid unnecessary queue upon arrival through an automatically generated control number obtained after filling the online Traveler’s Health Surveillance Form. Tanzania Tour operators association (which Laitolya Tours is a member), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism and the Ministry of Health of the Government of Tanzania collaborated in the set-up a containment and evacuation system for tourists in the Northern Circuit (Serengeti/Tarangire/Manyara/Arusha/Kilimanjaro).
Prior to departing Tanzania, Covid-19 testing (PCR and/or Rapid Test) will be required for most travelers. Please study the requirements of your airline and international airports carefully as requirements are dependent upon the destination country.
In most cases a PCR test will be required. This test must be administered no more than 3 days prior to your scheduled departure. Testing fees are $50 (Mainland) and $80 (Zanzibar) with an addition of facility fee payments which range from $10 – $30 depending upon the facility, within range, chosen to administer the test.
Once the testing process is complete and the certificate is ready, a notification with your results and certificate will be sent from the National Public Health Laboratory – Tanzania (covid19certificate@afya.go.tz) to the email address used during registration.
If you require a Rapid Test you must arrive at your international airport of departure at least 4 hours prior to departure. All the international airports are equipped with Rapid Testing facilities. There is no need for prior registration and the fee of $10 can be made in cash by depositing into the on-site bank. Results are provided within 15 to 20 minutes of taking the test.
