Mount Kilimanjaro

The ascent and descent takes five to six days. The park has seven hiking access routes through the Kilimanjaro forest reserve.

1. MARANGU ROUTE aka Pole Pole Trail

Day 1:

● Welcome to Tanzania! Our team will be there to pick you up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport where you will be driven to your Lodge for dinner and overnight in Moshi.
● Our experienced guides will brief you on your climb and provide you with all the gear and necessary information in order for you to acclimatize with the trek ahead.

Day 2:

Marangu Gate (1800m) to Mandara Hut (2750m)
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest

● After breakfast you will be driven to the Marangu gate for the first leg of your journey.
● You will trek through the forest to Mandara Hut at an altitude of 9000ft/2750m.
● On the way: Enjoy the beautiful rainforest and the windy trails while learning about the local flora and fauna.
● This trek will take 3-4 hours where you will overnight at the Mandara Hut.

Day 3:

Mandara Hut (2750m) to Horombo Hut (3700m)
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours

● A hot breakfast will be served to you in the hut and later you will start trekking through the forest along open moorland in order for you to reach Horombo Hut at 12000ft/3700m taking at least 5-7 hours.
● On the way: Take in the purple hints and bright greens of the giant lobelias and groundsels in the heathland before hitting the open moorlands where mainly shrubs are spotted.
● Lunch will be served along the way and you will stay overnight at the Horombo Hut.

Day 4:

Horombo Hut (3700m) to Kibo Hut (4700m)
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Semi-Desert

● An early breakfast will be served and you will continue your ascent passing the “last water point” which is a crisscrossing saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi.
● This trek will take at least 5-7 hours and you will get to an altitude of 15000ft/4700m.
● On the way: Having been given time to acclimatize to the altitude it’s time to watch the landscape change to a moonscape glory. This is the time to really take in the summit you have to conquer before you.
● You will have a picnic lunch en route to the Kibo Hut. Dinner and overnight at Kibo Hut.

Day 5:

Kibo Hut (4700m) to Horombo Hut (3700m) via Uhuru Peak (5895m)
Hiking Time: Ascent: 6-8 hours | Descent 4-5 hours
Habitat:Snow-capped Summit

● After an early breakfast you will immediately make your way to the summit through a steep walk up Gilman’s point at 18640ft/5681 m just in time for a glorious sunrise.
● You will then continue on to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19340ft/5895m and the highest free standing mountain in the world.
● Congratulations you’ve made it! Now begins your descent to Horombo hut which takes about 5-7 hours.
● On the way: Stay warm and stay focused - as your sense of triumph is at the peak.
● Overnight at Horombo hut.

Day 6:

Horombo Hut (3700m) to Marangu Gate (2750m)
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours

● You will continue your descent from Horombo to the Marangu gate for at least 5-7 hours where you will be met by our drivers who will transfer you to Kilemakyaro Mountain Lodge for a victory dinner, drinks and overnight.

Day 7:

● Now that you’ve conquered the Roof of Africa, had a scrumptious meal, why not unwind and enjoy invigorating spa treatments at the lodge (to be arranged with advanced notice) and the ambiance of Moshi.
● Thereafter you could decide to go back home or book a tour with us to other parks in the Northern Circuit or Zanzibar.

Depart Tanzania or continue on with your other Tanzanian adventure
